Clouds of Melancholy is a little project of mine that I started to work on quite suddenly. Ben and Keny are busy working on code and artwork for Life of a Ndege and I felt like I finally want to make a game by myself and in addition to something much bigger that we work on right now. So about 2 or 3 days ago I woke up and felt rather melancholic. Beautiful Scottish weather, rain and clouds, you know although it’s nearly May and it was all sunny before. So all of a sudden I took my keys and wrote a short track. Started to listen and the long-ago made up story stroke me with its details. So I started to write it down. And from there it was quite easy to understand that written script and music is perfect for a tiny art-game with a Gothian man as the only person appearing in it.
CoM is going to be very short thing, really, so don’t expected fireworks. It’s kind of a journey for you as a player. A journey through the troubled soul of a very peculiar Gothian man who… starts to feel. Who starts to believe in hope and even though he is not aware of that, he awakens part of this force that is responsible for amazing things or even miracles in Sadmoons world. That’s actually a little spoiler as you will not even know about it finishing the game but, oh well, that’s Sadmoons for you :). Everything that we will present in the future will have second bottom and might be just an illusion of what is REALLY going on around. Nevertheless, everything presented (so logically speaking this would be “an illusion”) is far from illusion for characters and for micro dimension of Sadmoons world. It’s just that macro dimension presents something that micro dimension can barely get access to. At least not when you are a Gothian Censor and you prey on lies Governement has been feeding you for years. Not when you are (as our Censor would put it) just a Staple of Albion.
It’s quite sad story. Whose purpose is to touch your very heart and stop for a second and think one or two things over.
So… I’m sure that those of you who look for something more than just mere and pure entertainment in games will be satisfied. The others, oh well… :).
Now, couple of snacks for you.
